Welcome Back and Happy 2014

Welcome back and bonne année! I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful holiday full of family and fun. Despite yesterday's Snow Day, we have hit the ground running! Here is a brief overview of our upcoming learning activities and events:

1.  Multicultural Banquet Presentations: Hopefully everyone has had a few moments to upload their pictures from the preparation of their meal from the Multicultural Banquet. These will be used to build a PowerPoint presentation on the dish over the next several days. Presentations will begin the week of January 20.

2.  Dance Workshop: Next Thursday, January 16 the FMPS Junior Classes will host Luv 2 Groove as we learn about Capoeira, a Brazilian art form that mixes dance, music, martial arts and gymnastics. The goal of this workshop is to teach self-confidence, self-expression and empowerment. Students will improve strength, balance and coordination through the dance-like movements learned.

3.  PD Day, Friday January 17. There are no classes for students next Friday, January 17.

4.  Ski & Snowboard Program, Thursday January 23. The ski & snowboard program begins Thursday January 23 and continues weekly until February 13.

5.  French Speeches: Students will research a chosen topic, write an organized speech of 2 to 4 minutes in length, memorize that speech, then present it to the class in early February. Please note that research and practice of the speech may take place at home however writing MUST be done in class. A student will then represent the class at the Junior School-wide Competition with a possibility to advance to the regional competition. Further details will be forthcoming.

Winter Holidays

The winter months are a popular time for families to take a trip to warmer climates. If you plan on doing so, please send me an email or a note so that I can let the office know of your child's planned absence. During such holidays, I strongly recommend that, instead of asking for worksheets which inevitably become lost or forgotten, families work together to create a scrapbook of the experience. Encourage your child to write her/his thoughts in both English and French, take pictures, collect brochures, ticket stubs, seashells, and so on. These can be used to build a positive memory of the voyage that will be remembered for a lifetime. Additionally, should a student wish to present such a project after he/she returns, I am happy to consider it for extra credit.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
