Fall is here!

Hard to believe that we're already into October!

Our Terry Fox run went very well. As a school, we raised just under $850.00. This is being sent directly to the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research.

Polar Bear Spirit Wear is back! You can order school clothing through myself with the order form sent home today. New this year are varsity-style hoodies with a twill patch and coloured embroidery. A PDF copy of the form is available here for download.

As a class, we are entering Prime Time for social studies and science. As a group, we have finished reviewing the provinces and capitals of Canada. We are taking some time to discuss the First Nations territories and comparing them to our provinces and capitals. We also established our class rules and constitution democratically by voting as a group.

In Science we have begun work on our Imaginary Animals (Grade 6s) and Journey Through the Human Body (Grade 5s). We are looking more in-depth at each human body system by choosing one for our voyage. The grade 6s are establishing an ecosystem for their imaginary animals to live.

Finally, here are several worthwhile reads for parents on conflict between pre-teens. The first is a blog post. The focus is on girls however, in my experience, the advice is applicable to all forms of social conflict in this age group. The last two are books that may be of interest:
