Interviews, thank you!

Many thanks to parents and students for attending parent-teacher-student interviews. I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with you regarding your child's progress in school this year. Please remember that your emails are welcome anytime should you have questions about what we are doing in school.

A question that came up several times was how to talk with your child about their day. Often, the "how was school today?" line doesn't get much in the way of response. That said, try to think about it from their point of view - they are tired from their busy day also. Here is an interesting article with multiple different types of questions you can try in order to help your child open up.

What I like about this article is that it suggests many types of questions as well as pointing out that it may take a few attempts before finding a question or two which resonates with your child. Finally, check out the comments at the end of the article for links to other questioning ideas.
