November is here!

The time has changed and the weather is cold! We are well into our programs and are wrapping up our first science units. Students in grade 5 have written a comic book sci-fi story on a journey through a human body system. Grade 6s have prepared a science report on an imaginary animal they have created. These works will be marked on a rubric and will count towards their science and French writing marks in first term report cards.

Speaking of report cards, progress reports are coming home on Thursday of this week! With it, I will be emailing all parents to invite parent and student for an interview next Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. I am trying to ensure that all families have an opportunity to meet with me face-to-face. In that email you will be able to select your time.

This week we are remembering two important events: Remembrance Day and Treaties Recognition Week. Remembrance Day is Friday and we are holding our annual ceremony in the gym beginning at 9:40 am. Parents are welcome to attend and the gym will be open to you as of 9:25 am.

New this year is Treaties Recognition Week. This first annual event has been introduced to help all Ontarians to understand the importance of treaties and learn more about treaty rights and relationships. Please see this website to learn more.

Finally, we are going on a field trip next week! On Wednesday, November 16 we will be walking to Castlefrank ES for the annual Scholastic Book Fair. We will need a couple parent-volunteers to walk with us so please be sure to let me know via the permission form if you can spare a few hours for a walk!
